This time, the project steps away from industrial metal and into the dust and poetry of the American West, blending country soul, rap storytelling, and acoustic grit to paint a vivid picture of what happens when tradition collides with transformation.
Set beneath the boundless expanse of the Big Sky, Old Montana is both a love letter and a lament — a song that gives voice to the people and places being quietly rewritten by modern progress. It’s not just about geography, but about identity, belonging, and resilience.
“This isn’t a political statement — it’s a human one,” explains Hoffman. “Montana has always symbolized strength, space, and self-reliance. What we’re seeing now is a shift — the land’s being dressed up for show, but the real Montana still beats underneath it. Old Montana is about honoring that heartbeat before it gets lost in the noise.”
A Fusion of Old Roots and New Rhythms
Old Montana fuses the rhythmic storytelling of hip-hop with the heart of outlaw country — a soundscape where steel strings meet rap cadence and mountain soul meets modern commentary. The verses carry the fast-flowing cadence of spoken poetry, while the choruses soar with warm harmonies and classic country depth.
Through this sonic hybrid, Hoffman and We Might Be Robots bridge past and present, creating a narrative that captures both nostalgia and confrontation — the spirit of a place that refuses to die quietly.

As with all We Might Be Robots projects, Old Montana continues the collective’s mission to explore how artificial intelligence and human creativity can coexist and collaborate.
Led by Rob Hoffman, an AI Scientist, musician, and filmmaker, the project’s goal is to use technology not to replace human artistry, but to amplify it — creating new mediums for storytelling that remain grounded in emotional truth.
